Top 10 Tuesday: 10 Fears About Blogging

10 Fears About Blogging

With all of three blog posts under my belt, I can’t say I’ve conquered every one of these fears yet, but I’m working on it. Alongside each of these fears is my feeble attempt to conquer and vanquish it.

  1. It’s all been said before. There is nothing new under the sun. What’s new is my humble take on it – the only take from this bundle of nerves and cells with its unique set of experiences. No other person can write from exactly the same perspective that I can.
  2. The combox. I hate conflict. Handling disagreement is great practice for building the thick skin necessary to accept the inevitable (few, I hope) negative reviews my book will receive.
  3. It’s one more thing I have to do. Incorporating another task can help me focus and prioritize, making time for the things that must get done and letting go of the unnecessary and time-wasting activities.
  4. Suffocation. No escape. Oops, that’s my fear of airplanes.
  5. Blogging, slogging, flogging, dogging, hogging. Not many positive associations there. Moving on to number six . . .
  6. Being boring. Avoiding bland prose can help me develop that critical inner voice that entices readers to turn pages, devour books, and come back for more.
  7. Airing too much dirty laundry. There’s a fine line between keeping it real and too much information. Blogging will force me to think about that line between what’s appropriate for public consumption and what’s not.
  8. Burnout. Setting the right pace and choosing timely topics that interest me can forestall burnout.I can change things up any time I want. Topics, style, frequency, graphics, you name it.
  9. Feast or famine. So long as I don’t post so little people forget about me or so much people get tired of me, it’s probably okay. I can reassess and reschedule as I go.
  10. Doh. I can’t even come up with ten posts for this list, which seemed like a really good idea when I started. Maybe I should pack it in.  But see, I can just wing it and voila, make up stuff, cause that’s what I do.
  •  Do you blog? If not, have some of these fears kept you from trying? If you do blog, what pitfalls have you learned to avoid? Can you create a Top 10 list without resorting to lame humor?

  1. Beautiful, poignant, and so very true. You’ll do great at this. And I love Pennsylvania. Next time I’m out that way, we’ll have to meet up. 🙂
